Christ Church Baptismal Font

This baptismal font in Christ Church may be the oldest object in America continually used for the same purpose. William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania, was a Quaker, but he was baptized as an Anglican as an infant. So when the first Anglican Church in Pennsylvania was opening, the bishop sent over the font Penn was baptized in to the church, as a bit of a jab at Penn. We don’t know how old it is, but it dates back to at least the Medieval period. It came from All Hallows Church in London.
