In the Battle of Chaffin’s Farm/New Market Heights, Union troops spearheaded by the USCT attacked Confederate entrenchments held by the famous Texas Brigade. The Federals captured the works after severe fighting, and suffering heavy casualties. Black soldiers won 14 medals of honor, more than any other battle. Visit the official reenactment site.
